Responsibilities:
The Institute is recruiting a Programme Support Assistant for the International Satoyama Initiative (ISI).
Under the overall supervision of the UNU-IAS Director, and the direct supervision of the Programme Director of the ISI, the Programme Support Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Ž¥Assume responsibilities for the ISI as the main programmatic secretary; assisting the day to day management and operation of programmatic activities such as fund raising, programme outreach, event coordination and logistics, writing, editing, translation and other tasks;
Ž¥Assist in building coherence, cooperation and cohesion within the International Partnership for Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) network as a part of the secretariat;
Ž¥Assume greater responsibilities in public outreach, promoting ISI activities, especially ones related to IPSI and work to relevant audiences, including the Japanese community, academic institutions, foundations, the private sector, and the general public;
Ž¥Make where appropriate, and within the ability of the Programme Support Assistant, research and research-assistant contributions to projects such as design and coordination for the scientific assessment for Satoyama-Satoumi, and;
Ž¥Perform any other duties as may be assigned or required by the Programme Director.

Duration of Contract:
This is a full time employment on a one (1) year Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) contract with UNU-IAS, with the possibility for renewal subject to requirements and satisfactory work performance.
The successful candidate will be employed under a local contract and will not hold international civil servant status nor be a ¡Èstaff member¡É as defined in the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations. UNU does not sponsor a working visa for this position.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
Ž¥A Bachelor¡Çs degree in the area of environment, development, social sciences, or a related discipline;
Ž¥At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a related area. Work experience in international organizations or promoting major international initiatives is an asset;
Ž¥Knowledge and experience of working with coordination and organization of conferences, logistical and financial arrangements. Knowledge of the UN governance structure will be considered an added advantage;
Ž¥Good computer and organizational skills;
Ž¥Excellent communication skills with fluency in both oral and written English. Knowledge of Japanese or another UN official language is an asset.
Ž¥Excellent analytical skills as well as demonstrated ability to multi-task and to manage own workload
and schedule to deliver timely results;
Ž¥A good team player with strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural,
multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Starting Date: It is expected that the appointee will take up the position by 1 September 2013 or soon thereafter.
