The Overseas Safety Website of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an alert on September 16, 2026, saying attacks by Yemen's Houthis on Saudi Arabia are continuing. According to the notice, from September 8 to 9 the Houthis attacked civilian and military facilities, including energy-related facilities, in southern Saudi Arabia in retaliation for airstrikes on their bases.

The Houthis are also said to have taken control of the whole Red Sea coast of Yemen by the 11th, and attacks continue intermittently, leaving the outlook uncertain.

People staying in or planning to visit Saudi Arabia are urged to check the existing danger information and alerts, gather the latest information including flight updates from multiple sources, follow local authorities' instructions and stay away from military facilities. Level 3 (Avoid All Travel) applies to the border area with Yemen in southern Saudi Arabia, and Level 4 (Evacuate) applies to all of Yemen.
