Japan Committee, Vaccines for the World's Children (JCV) is a private international aid organization that carries out "child vaccine support," giving vaccines to children in developing countries to protect their futures. According to its website, 4,000 children a day, or one every 20 seconds, die worldwide for lack of vaccines.

Donations are converted into vaccines and related equipment in cooperation with UNICEF and delivered to children on the ground. A dose of polio vaccine is said to cost about 20 yen, and the cold chain that keeps vaccines refrigerated or frozen is presented as another essential part of the support. Ongoing support countries are Myanmar (since 1996), Laos (since 2007), Bhutan (since 2008) and Vanuatu (since 2010), and support in 2025 totaled 117,745,176 yen worth.

Ways to take part include donations, collecting plastic bottle caps and unused postcards, placing donation boxes, and partnering with companies and groups. JCV also accepts requests for guest lecturers and office visits.

Key points

  • Focuses on vaccine support and delivers it to children in cooperation with UNICEF
  • Easy to join through everyday items such as bottle caps and unused postcards
  • Support results, financial statements and annual reports are published year by year

Why this organization's work stands out

JCV narrows its focus to the simple goal of giving vaccines, and publishes supported countries and amounts every year, which makes it easy to understand. It also explains that the daily death toll, 8,000 when it was founded, has been halved as immunization spread, which conveys why continued effort matters.

Besides donations, it offers many easy entry points, including cap collection, donation boxes, and partnerships with schools and companies.

Editor's comment

Knowing that even a small amount can become a life-saving vaccine makes international cooperation feel much closer.

Details on supported countries and ways to take part are on the official website. Please take a look.
