Niranjana Sewa Sanga was founded in August 2003 with the aim of creating "a society where everyone lives together as companions who help one another and can thrive as themselves." Centered on education support, it works as a means of tackling poverty around Sujata Village in Bihar State, India.

Its distinctive approach is that, rather than providing direct aid in India, it builds a cooperative framework with local partner organizations and acts as a supporter of local self-reliance. In Japan it is based in Osaka with a branch in Tokyo, and its staff are mainly pro bono professionals in their thirties, including teachers, pharmacists, accountants, sales and office workers.

Its history lists school support, the opening of an orphanage and a library, the start of study tours, a free clinic, sewing classes for women, wells, a scholarship fund, school meals and an IT classroom. In 2025 it adopted six codes of conduct (a credo), and its news section also introduces an India study tour, the intern program and a collaboration product with a company.

Key points

  • "Accompanying" support that works with local partner organizations to foster local self-reliance
  • A wide range of education-centered activities, including school education, vocational training and emergency aid
  • Opportunities for citizens to take part, such as India study tours and events

Why this organization's work stands out

Over more than 20 years it has gradually expanded schools, an orphanage and vocational training in the same region. Its emphasis on "moving together" rather than a supporter-and-recipient relationship is a useful reference.

Young pro bono staff and university student interns play active roles, showing one way to take part in international cooperation alongside a regular job.

Editor's comment

The question "If you could not read, what kind of future could you imagine?" stayed with me. It is a reminder of how important education is.

Ways to get involved, including study tours, events, donations and joining the operating staff, are introduced on the official website. Please take a look.
