The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has posted an advisory on its Overseas Safety Homepage regarding attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen's Houthis (dated October 9, 2026). Reports said Riyadh's international airport was damaged between October 7 and 8, and since the 8th many flights there have been cancelled or delayed.

The Saudi government has announced that attacks on the airports in Abha in the south and in Riyadh caused casualties, including three foreign nationals killed. The attacks and fighting inside Yemen may continue, the outlook is uncertain, and airspace closures and flight cancellations or delays could occur without notice.

Those planning to travel are urged to consider carefully whether the trip is necessary, including postponing it. Those already in the country are asked to check the danger information and advisories issued for Saudi Arabia, gather airport information from multiple sources, and follow instructions from local authorities.

Key points

  • If planning to travel, carefully consider the necessity, including postponement
  • If staying there, check airport and flight information from multiple sources and follow local authorities
  • Danger Level 3 (avoid travel) applies to some areas, and Level 4 (evacuate) to all of Yemen
