The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Global Festa JAPAN 2026 will be held in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on October 17 and 18. Co-organized by the Ministry, JICA and JANIC, it is one of Japan's largest international cooperation events, aimed at deepening understanding of the current state and significance of international cooperation. This year is its 35th edition.
It is held in a hybrid format, combining in-person events with online streaming. About 180 organizations, including NGOs/NPOs, international organizations, companies, universities and embassies in Tokyo, will have booths, alongside stage programs with a variety of guests, hands-on workshops and food trucks serving dishes from many countries.
On the 17th, in addition to the opening ceremony, there will be a quiz stage on international cooperation and a talk by former JICA overseas volunteers. On the 18th, a participatory quiz themed on the 70th anniversary of Japan's UN membership is planned, and the finale features a talk and songs by a South African-born jazz singer.
Key points
- Hear directly about NGO activities at about 180 booths
- Stage programs, hands-on workshops and food trucks for the whole family
- Online streaming programs for those who can't attend in person
Why we recommend this event
Opportunities to meet so many organizations working in international cooperation in one place are rare. You can talk with people at the booths and experience global issues first-hand, making it easy to join even if you are new to the field.
It is also a useful place to meet organizations if you are thinking about working at an NGO, donating or volunteering.

Editor's comment
An event that has run for 35 years is clearly supported by many people. This year's theme, "Connected to the World: My Life," looks like a good prompt to think about how daily life links to the wider world.
Please consider adding it to your weekend plans. For the detailed program, see the official website.
