World Vision is an international NGO that works on the basis of the Christian spirit, founded in Oregon, in the United States, in September 1950. Today, in about 100 countries, it works toward a world in which all children can grow up healthy, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender. World Vision Japan (WVJ) was established in 1987 and in fiscal 2023 carried out 169 projects in 37 countries including Japan.
Its three pillars are development assistance, emergency humanitarian aid and advocacy. Development assistance centers on child sponsorship, which provides long-term support in a wide range of fields such as water and sanitation, health and nutrition, education and livelihoods. In emergency humanitarian aid, it distributes supplies such as food, clothing and tents and provides psychological care during disasters and conflicts, then supports the rebuilding of people's livelihoods after the emergency phase. In advocacy, it works on activities that promote "children's rights."
About 40 percent of the funds WVJ receives come from child sponsorship, and its work is also funded by donations for water and food, donations for refugee support, and subsidies from international organizations and governments. It also supports children in Japan, and the website introduces a charity run and walk, "GLOBAL 6K FOR WATER 2026," scheduled for October 18, 2026.

Why this organization deserves attention
Its work is notable for supporting children's lives across time, from everyday support to emergency relief during disasters. It is introduced as working toward the goal that children enjoy good health, receive an education, are protected and feel loved, while checking how far these goals have been reached.
Besides child sponsorship, there are various ways to get involved, as a company, a school or a volunteer, or by joining events. How funds are raised and used is also published, so you can learn how the support works before deciding to take part.

Editor's comment
The founder's words, "I can't do everything for everyone, but I can do something for someone," are introduced as the starting point of its work. They remind us how important it is for each person to add up what they can do, even if it is not something big.
There are also events you can join by moving your body, such as a charity run. Why not look on the official website for a way to take part that suits you?
