NPOWEB is the website of Seien (Japanese: セイエン), a specified nonprofit corporation. Seien was founded on November 15, 2021. It took over the work of its predecessor, Seeds (Japanese: シーズ), an organization that worked to build systems supporting citizen activities, and works to spread understanding of systems related to the NPO Act and donation taxation.
Seien's purpose is to contribute to a rich civil society by promoting a wide range of citizen-led social contribution activities, through policy proposals and the spread of systems related to the Act on the Promotion of Specified Nonprofit Activities and donation taxation, and through support for nonprofits. Its predecessor is introduced as an organization involved in the enactment of the NPO Act in 1998, the creation of the certified NPO corporation system, the drafting of accounting standards for NPO corporations, and the founding of the Japan Fundraising Association.
The site shares information about nonprofits on an ongoing basis. Its email newsletter covers grants and awards, including support for disaster-affected areas; the issue of September 28, 2026 (No. 517) introduced 21 new items. The site also publishes institutional news, reference videos and materials for running an NPO corporation, and written requests.
Key points
- Works to spread understanding of the NPO Act and donation tax systems and to support nonprofit activities
- Regularly delivers grant and award information through an email newsletter
- Also offers practical resources such as reference videos and materials for running an NPO corporation
Why this organization deserves attention
To keep their work going, nonprofits and NGOs need to know about systems and funding. NPOWEB organizes this kind of information clearly and delivers it, which makes it a reassuring resource for anyone involved in running an organization.
Another feature is the experience in building systems that support citizen activities, carried over from its predecessor. It gathers useful information for people who want to start an organization or are looking for grants.

Editor's comment
International cooperation is supported not only by people working in the field. When there are efforts to organize information on systems and funding and to back organizations up, citizens' wishes find it easier to take shape.
If you are interested in running a nonprofit or in grants, why not take a look at the newsletter on the official website?
