NPO Network Harmony is an international cooperation NGO that aims to learn the spirit of mutual understanding and peace through exchange with Asian countries and to build the qualities of global citizens. It holds study tours to northern and northeastern Thailand twice a year, supporting education while interacting with children. Its membership is listed as 67.

Its history goes back to March 1997, when school supplies were first provided in Udon Thani Province in northeastern Thailand (the first tour). It then began supporting dormitory construction in 2002, a lunch project in 2004, scholarships in 2006 and fair trade support in 2007. The 21st dormitory was completed by February 2020, and in 2018 a water purification system with a capacity of 4,000 liters a day was completed.

In Japan, it presents Christmas cards to elderly people living alone in Kashiwa, takes part in Thai festivals and joins local events. The official website is noted as under reconstruction as of July 2022.

Key points

  • Twice-yearly study tours let participants support Thai children while meeting them directly

Editor's comment

Meeting the children on the tours seems to be what keeps the support going year after year.
