NGO Niigata Api no Kai is a volunteer group supporting Sri Lanka. Its guiding idea is to turn the small steps each person can take into social contribution, so that everyone can live a vibrant and fulfilling life. "Api" means "we" in Sinhala.

It supports the Sri Lankan NGO Sarvodaya, the child-protection group Peace, and the Metta Social Service Foundation (Metta Children's Home) with education and vocational assistance.

It also carries out living-environment projects for internally displaced people, children and women in poor villages and displacement areas of Sri Lanka. In 2016 it built a concert hall in Soriyapokuna village, and the opening ceremony is shown with local children celebrating.

Key points

  • A name meaning "we", reflecting a commitment to taking small steps together
