Future Code is a certified NPO based in Kobe that provides medical support in disaster-hit and impoverished areas around the world. Its name carries the wish to give "the key to the future of healthcare worldwide." It began with the shared determination of two Japanese doctors who met in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
Its main areas of activity are Haiti, Bangladesh and Burkina Faso. Focusing on healthcare, public health and education, it emphasizes local leadership and builds education and medical systems together with local people. Its staff include doctors and nurses as well as administrative scriveners, designers, IT professionals and university staff.
Its student division, BYCS, makes and sells a hand cream called "hadanishea" using shea butter from Burkina Faso, and uses the proceeds for medical support there in a self-sustaining cycle. In 2025, a community development project centered on a clinic, with large-scale farming and livestock, also started on the outskirts of the capital of Bangladesh.
Key points
- A Kobe-based medical support group that grew out of the Haiti earthquake
- Builds healthcare and education systems with local people in Haiti, Bangladesh and Burkina Faso
- Its student division turns hand cream sales into support for local communities in a sustainable cycle
Why this organization's work stands out
It faces problems that medicine alone cannot solve, values local leadership, and considers education and jobs as well. Its farming and livestock project around a clinic reflects this thinking and offers a useful reference.
Students lead the product making, and the proceeds connect to support overseas, which gives people in Japan an easy way to take part. Its official blog regularly shares the latest activities.

Editor's comment
It was memorable to see people from many different professions joining forces in healthcare settings around the world, starting from Kobe. The students' efforts also make us look forward to what comes next.
