Caring for the Future Foundation Japan (CFF Japan) is a certified NPO guided by the belief that "children are hope and the future itself." It works to build a society where everyone can have hope for the future, growing together with children and young people.

Overseas, it supports the construction and operation of "Children's Homes," child care facilities run by local corporations. In the Philippines, where it has been active since 1997, the home cares for children such as former street children. In Malaysia, active since 2007, it supports children who cannot live with their families because of abuse or neglect. In Myanmar, active since 2014, it supports people and children living in local slums (as of 2021 the deteriorating political situation has made activities difficult, according to the site).

Many young people from Japan take part in its work camps and study tours. More recently the group has also worked in education and communities in Japan, including collaborative classes with schools and, in the Karasuyama area of Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, a parenting space and learning support.

Key points

  • International cooperation supporting children in the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar
  • Creates opportunities for young people from Japan to learn on site through work camps and study tours
  • Also carries out education and community activities in Japan, such as school collaboration and a local parenting space

Why this organization's work stands out

A distinctive feature is that children are seen not only as people to be helped but as partners to grow with. While supporting Children's Homes overseas, CFF Japan also creates a place where young people in Japan can grow, which makes it a useful reference.

Working across three fields of overseas programs, schools and local communities gives people several ways to get involved. The publication of financial statements and activity reports for each fiscal year is also reassuring for those considering support.

Editor's comment

Learning that it all began with a dream of building a home for children on an empty hill, I felt the power of many people's hopes adding up.

Overseas volunteer programs, activities in Japan and supporter recruitment are described on the official website. Please take a look.
