The Kansai NGO Council, together with Free The Children Japan and Osaka YMCA, will hold "One World Festival for Youth 2026 × Changemaker Meetup 2026" on December 13, 2026, at Osaka YMCA in Nishi-ku, Osaka. Aimed mainly at high school and university-age youth aged 25 and under, the event is designed to support young people not only in learning about social issues but also in taking their "first step and next step" toward solving them.

"One World Festival for Youth," organized by the Kansai NGO Council, is now in its 13th year. NGOs, international organizations, companies and educational institutions working on international cooperation and the SDGs will set up booths where visitors can hear about their work and join workshops. Exhibitors include NGOs such as Green Earth Network, CODE Kaigai Saigai Enjo Shimin Center (Citizens towards Overseas Disaster Emergency), Kiko Network and the Hutan Group, along with groups from high schools and universities (as of October 27).

"Changemaker Meetup," organized by Free The Children Japan, brings together children and young people aged 25 and under who are taking action to make society better, so they can report on their activities to one another. Through interaction with guests and fellow changemakers of the same generation, it aims to boost motivation for their next actions. Participation is free but requires advance registration; capacity is about 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis, and the deadline is noon on December 10.

Key points

  • Hear directly about international cooperation and SDG initiatives at booths run by NGOs, international organizations and educational institutions
  • Young people aged 25 and under who are taking action for society share their activities and connect with peers
  • The 13th edition of a youth-focused international cooperation event in Kansai; free, with about 100 places on a first-come basis

Why We Recommend This Event

The organizers planned this event because there are few cross-school opportunities for high school students to present and share what they have learned in international understanding education, and few places that connect young people with NGOs, JICA, local governments and others. Meeting peers with similar interests and adults working in the field, beyond the boundaries of one's own school, is a major attraction.

For young people who feel "I'm doing something, but it's a bit lonely," a place to learn from others' ideas and encourage one another is reassuring. It is an event that helps move people from learning to taking action.

“I was struck by the organizers' concern that there are few places nationwide where students can present and share what they learned about international understanding in school. A place to meet like-minded peers outside school is precious for young people.”

“Meeting people outside school, as Aoba says, really matters. I was moved by the idea that some young people feel a little lonely even while taking action. Simply learning how peers find their way can give you the courage to take the next step.”

“Taking in your words, I felt there is a real need for places that bridge learning and acting. That the festival has continued for thirteen years probably means many people need a place where NGOs and young people can meet.”

“Interested in international cooperation but not sure where to start? This event is perfect for high school and university students like you. Chances to talk directly with NGO staff are more valuable than you might think. If you live in the Kansai area, why not invite your friends and join?”
