To let people with busy weekends take part, SHARE has created a volunteer opportunity on a weekday evening. It adds the weeknight slot that many people had requested to its activities, which have mainly been held on weekends.
The work is sorting items sent by supporters across Japan, including unused postcards, unused and used stamps, foreign banknotes and coins, telephone cards and gift certificates. The sorted items are converted to cash and become funds for activities in Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Japan.
The release explains that when used stamps worth 10,000 yen are collected, three weaning-food classes can be held in Cambodia, two health bureau staff in Timor-Leste can join training in vaccination skills, and one medical interpreter can be dispatched for foreign mothers and children in Japan.
Key points
- A weeknight volunteer session you can join on a company early-leave day
- Sorting stamps and similar items funds health activities in Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Japan
- Easy to start: "without strain, casually, from what you can do"
Why we recommend this event
International cooperation is supported not only by donations and staff but also by quiet work like this. Light tasks make it easy to take a first step as a volunteer.
It is also appealing that you can picture how the stamps you sort connect to protecting children's health.
Staff comments

Minato AobaResearch
“I like that it's designed so people can join in two hours after work. The example that 10,000 yen of used stamps funds three weaning-food classes caught my eye, since it shows where the help goes.”

Sophie HiroseWriting and translation
“The weaning-food example that caught your eye, Aoba-san, stayed with me too. I find it refreshing that sorting everyday stamps connects to the health of mothers and children in Cambodia and Japan.”

“Hearing you both, I'm reminded how precious it is to build up small tasks. I hope this kind of relaxed volunteering becomes an easy doorway into international cooperation.”
