JAHSS promotes research and exchange on human security. It holds an annual conference at universities around Japan every year, and this year is the 16th. Past venues include Kanazawa University (2025), JICA-ORI and Hosei University (2024), Kobe University (2023) and Reitaku University (2022).
The 2026 conference will take place on November 14 (Sat) and 15 (Sun) at Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus. It will be held in person in principle. Besides oral presentations, there will be poster presentations. Posters may be presented in Japanese, and undergraduates may apply. The best poster presentations receive an award, and the 2026 recipients have already been announced.
The call for papers closed on its extended deadline of September 15. Registration to attend can be done through the conference website. The announcement page does not list fees or the detailed program, so please check the conference website for the latest information.

Why we recommend this event
Human security is a foundational idea for thinking about international cooperation and the work of NGOs. An annual conference that brings together researchers, practitioners and students is a chance to connect field experience with academic discussion.
Undergraduates can apply for poster presentations and Japanese is allowed for posters, so it is open to newcomers. For students interested in international cooperation, or people working at NGOs, it is a place to encounter new perspectives.
