Piece of Syria, a certified NPO that provides educational support to Syrian refugee and internally displaced children, will hold an online information session on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
With the vision of "making Syria a country people want to visit again," Piece of Syria has been running kindergartens, restoring school buildings and providing psychosocial care since 2016, and says it has brought educational opportunities to more than 50,000 children so far. At the session, its representative, who worked in Syria as a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer, plans to talk about what he saw on a recent visit to Syria and the support that will be needed going forward.
The session will introduce schools that keep going despite the effects of the conflict, children who continue to learn, the organization's history, and ways to get involved. After the activity introduction and field report, a Q&A and an optional networking session are also planned.
Key points
- A report on everyday life and schools in Syria, based on a recent visit and covering what is hard to learn from the news
- Free and online, so anyone in Japan or overseas can join easily
- A Q&A and networking session let you hear directly about ways to get involved
Why we recommend this event
The conflict in Syria has dragged on, and it appears in the news less and less. That makes it a valuable chance to hear about the situation today directly from someone who has actually been there.
Education support builds the strength of children who will shape society in the future, and it is a foundation for reconstruction. The session was designed as a first step for people who are interested in international cooperation and peacebuilding but are not sure where to start, so it is easy for newcomers to join.

Editor's comment
In the vision of making Syria a country people want to visit again, I feel the affection of people who have lived there. This is an organization that wants people to come to love Syria itself, going beyond the relationship of those who give and those who receive support.
Because it is an online session of about one hour, it is also a good fit for students and working people who cannot free up time on weekdays. Please check how to register on the registration page linked from the PR TIMES announcement.
