MOFA updated its danger information for Saudi Arabia, raising Asir, Najran and Jazan provinces in full (excluding the Level 3 border area with Yemen) and two districts of Makkah Province adjoining them from Level 1 to Level 2 (avoid non-essential travel).

Riyadh Province and Eastern Province (excluding the Yemen border area) remain at Level 2. The border areas with Yemen remain at Level 3 (travel advisory: do not travel), and travel there is discouraged for any purpose.

As background, since October 5 attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen's Houthis have intensified; an attack at Abha International Airport killed two foreign nationals and injured 28. The outlook is uncertain and attacks may continue.

Those who must travel are urged to gather the latest information from multiple sources, take special care, stay away from energy and military facilities, and not photograph military facilities.

Key points

  • Parts of the south raised from Level 1 to Level 2 on October 9, 2026
