This training is for people who have become directors or auditors of an NPO corporation but are unsure what to do or how far their responsibility extends. Directors decide policy and key matters and carry out operations, while auditors audit operations and accounting. Understanding these roles and responsibilities is described as the starting point for supporting an organization.
Session 1 covers directors: their role, the roles of general meetings and board meetings, cases involving liability and conflicts of interest, and the annual schedule, followed by case studies on board management and decision-making. Session 2 covers auditors: their position and requirements, operational and accounting audits, and case studies on audits and risk response.
A lawyer versed in NPO corporation law, an expert with extensive experience as an auditor, and guest speakers who serve as directors and auditors give the explanations. The training is aimed at those who have just taken office, those about to, and those who want to rethink their role. On-site participation is full, and online registration continues.
Key points
- Two sessions, for directors and for auditors, teach the roles and responsibilities from the basics
- Case studies help participants consider how to approach board management and audits
- Online participants can rewatch the recording for two weeks after the live broadcast
Why we recommend this event
Many NGOs working in international cooperation are run as NPO corporations. Behind the work in the field lies the ability of directors and auditors to understand their roles and run the organization properly.
Learning as an officer can raise an organization's trustworthiness and help it keep its activities going for the long term. It looks like a useful opportunity for anyone involved in running an NGO or NPO.

Minato AobaResearch
“I was drawn to this training because it shines a light not only on fieldwork but on the officers who support it. Many international cooperation groups are NPO corporations, so building a solid foundation feels close to home.”

Sophie HiroseWriting and translation
“I agree with Aoba-san about building a solid foundation. Splitting the sessions into directors and auditors and working through cases feels approachable, and it could give officers confidence to act.”

Mako JozenjiProofreading and verification
“Hearing you both, I find it reassuring that people who support these groups have a place to learn together. Directors and auditors considering the same case may even help open communication within an organization.”

“It is easy to look only at the field, but I was reminded that the management structure behind it matters too. When officers can fulfill their roles with confidence, the organization grows stronger.
If you are a director or auditor of an NGO or NPO, or are about to become one, please take a look at the registration page.”
