Pro Bono Week in Tokyo 2026 is the first event held by an executive committee in which the general incorporated association LEDGE takes part together with Japanese and foreign law firms and NPOs. Its aim is to help more people learn about "pro bono" work, in which lawyers and other legal professionals use their expertise for social good.
Four sessions will be held during the week. The opening event on November 2 takes up "Pro Bono Now and Next," discussing the current situation and how corporate legal practice can be involved. On November 5, a session uses refugee support as an example to present real cases of collaboration between lawyers and NPOs. On November 6, there will be a session in English on environmental pro bono work, followed by an explanation of legal affairs for NPO/NGO management and a matching networking event.
Participation is free, and registration is made in advance through the Peatix page for each session. Names and affiliations must be registered for building entry procedures. Newcomers to pro bono work and students are also welcome.
Key points
- Hear from the field how lawyers and NPOs work together, using refugee support as an example
- A networking event gives NPOs and NGOs without an easy-to-reach lawyer the chance to meet legal professionals
- Free to attend, and open to citizens and students
Why we recommend this event
NPO and NGO management involves legal matters such as contracts, labor issues and personal data protection. A chance to talk face to face with lawyers could be a reassuring encounter for organizations.
Pro bono is also one way that people with specialized skills can contribute to society. Even for those unfamiliar with the law, it can be an opportunity to learn about the many ways of getting involved in support.

Editor's comment
Those who support international cooperation and social issues are not only the people working on the ground. When people with specialized knowledge lend their strength, the reach of an activity can grow greatly.
If a session catches your interest, please check the details on the special website and consider registering.
