On October 22, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Overseas Safety Homepage updated its danger information for Saudi Arabia. Riyadh, Eastern, Makkah, Madinah, Najran, Asir, Al Bahah and Jazan provinces are all now at Level 3 (Avoid All Travel).

The notice cites attacks by Yemen's Houthis that caused deaths and injuries at airports including Riyadh, and a further attack on October 22 on an international airport and oil facilities in the Eastern Province. It states that the outlook remains uncertain.

For the four provinces of Riyadh, Eastern, Makkah and Madinah, staying is not prohibited where there are truly unavoidable circumstances, such as activities of companies or organizations; in that case, people are asked to stay in close contact with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General. For the time being, travelers are also urged to avoid using or approaching airports unless truly necessary.
