Japan Heart announced that it received a donation of 20 million yen from Sanyo Sangyo, a plant maintenance company that has supported the NGO continuously since 2020.
The donation is divided as follows: 10 million yen for renewing the "Dream Train" children's home in Yangon, Myanmar; 5 million yen for the "Asia Pediatric Medical Supporters" program that sustains the operation of the free Japan Heart Asia Pediatric Medical Center in Cambodia; and 5 million yen for relief in areas hit by the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake.
Dream Train houses about 130 children aged 5 to 18, but the facility, more than 15 years old, has deteriorated, and the total cost of rebuilding is expected to exceed 170 million yen. The Cambodian hospital, a 200-bed, completely free facility, opened in October 2025 and needs funds every day to operate. In Kumamoto, Japan Heart began surveys on the day of the disaster and, as of September 24, had provided 1,377 medical support cases to 285 people, with activities continuing at evacuation shelters.
Key points
- A donation with clear purposes reaching three sites at once, in Japan and abroad
- The company has supported Japan Heart continuously since 2020
- Hospitals and facilities need ongoing funds for operations, not just construction
Why this news deserves attention
It is helpful that the use of the donation and its background are explained concretely, alongside conditions on the ground. It also shows one organization steadily addressing very different challenges: children's living conditions, pediatric care and medical aid in disasters.
A company giving over many years is also a reassuring way to help NGOs continue their work.
