Free The Children Japan (FTCJ) works with local NGOs in India, the Philippines and elsewhere to support children whose rights have been denied by poverty. Its activities include education support, school construction, income-generation support and fair trade.

This tour visits projects run with CCD, a local partner NGO FTCJ has worked with since 2001. Through exchanges with kindergarten and primary school children, home visits, and a visit to a village that received goat support, participants can see how support reaches people's lives.

In Kolkata, volunteering at a facility connected with Mother Teresa is planned. The itinerary also includes the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort in Agra, the Red Fort in Delhi, and a yoga experience. The program may change depending on local conditions.

The tour is open to junior high school students through working adults; junior high students may join alone, and younger children may join with an adult family member. Free FTCJ membership registration and other conditions apply, so please check the official page for details.

Key points

  • Visit local NGO projects and see for yourself how support reaches people
  • Junior high students can join alone; parent-child participation is welcome
  • Online briefings (Oct. 29 and Nov. 26) let you learn more before deciding

Why We Recommend This Event

It combines sightseeing with direct encounters with children and local NGO staff at support sites. Built on a long-standing partnership, the tour offers a chance to learn how support has led to changes in daily life.

Because you can hear details at an online briefing before applying, it is easy to consider for first-time study tour participants and for families deciding together.

Editor's comment

As the tour's tagline says, it is a week that changes how you see the world, and stories from the people you meet there may teach more than any textbook.
