Timed with International Women's Day on March 8, JOICFP will begin accepting entries on October 26, 2026 for White Ribbon Run 2027, a charity run to protect women's health and rights. Open to all ages and genders, this 12th edition lets participants support women around the world by running or walking.

There are two ways to take part: "group runs," where people gather at one of 62 or more locations nationwide (on March 6 or 7), and the "virtual run," which you can do anywhere, anytime and at any pace between March 1 and 31. Participants receive a bandana made in collaboration with the brand BUDO that can also serve as a disaster-preparedness item. Until December 25, a "buddy entry" gives JPY 700 off per person when two or more adults sign up together.

All proceeds from the event are donated. They are planned to support awareness-raising and training to prevent unintended teenage pregnancies in Japan and in partner countries such as Ghana, Zambia and Kenya, as well as support for women and mothers and children affected by the Kumamoto earthquake.

The event began with a wish expressed by mothers affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake: to have the strength to flee with their children in their arms. Its message is that caring for your own health helps you protect the people you love.

Key points

  • Choose between group runs and the virtual run
  • All proceeds are donated to support women's health in Japan and abroad
  • Participants receive a BUDO collaboration bandana usable for disaster preparedness

Why we recommend this event

Running directly becomes a donation that supports women's health and rights around the world. Even if you are not athletic, you can join the virtual run at your own pace.

Born from the experience of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the event is also a chance to think about disaster preparedness and your own health.

Editor's comment

It could be a nice goal to work toward this spring with friends and family.
