According to the Ministry, attacks on locations across Saudi Arabia by the Houthis of Yemen have increased since October 5. On October 10, an attack on the international airport in Riyadh reportedly killed 12 people, including foreign nationals, and injured more than 300. Further attacks on two international airports were reported the next day.
In response, areas previously at Level 1, including the northern border province, Al-Jawf, Madinah and Makkah, were raised to Level 2 (avoid non-essential travel). The border area with Yemen remains at Level 3 (avoid all travel).
The Ministry urges anyone who must travel to gather up-to-date information from multiple sources and take sufficient safety measures. For the time being, it asks people to avoid using or approaching airports unless truly necessary, and to stay away from energy and military facilities without photographing them.
Key points
- The whole of Saudi Arabia is now at danger Level 2 or above
