Plan International will hold the hands-on event "BE YOURSELF! Jibun-rashisa Lab" as part of PLAN GIRLS MOVEMENT 2026, timed to International Day of the Girl on October 11. Its aim is girls' empowerment: creating opportunities to discover and express who you are.

The venue offers flower arranging, makeup experiences, charm making and self-expression through words. Creators and specialists serve as "special researchers" who explore individuality alongside visitors at eye level. There is also an exhibition on the issues facing girls in Japan and abroad and on gender equality.

At a media day on October 9, ahead of the public opening, model Saya Kagawa joined a talk session. She shared the view that being yourself means not staying the same but getting to know the person you are becoming, and hoped the event would be a chance for visitors to value themselves.

Key points

  • Two days, October 10 and 11, at Shibuya Hikarie. Free, no registration, and visitors may enter and leave at any time
  • Makeup, flower arranging, charm making and more — a hands-on way to think about individuality
  • An exhibition on the challenges facing girls worldwide and on gender equality

Why we recommend this event

Girls' issues and international cooperation can feel hard to approach, but this event starts from familiar experiences like makeup and crafts. Visitors can drop in, reflect on themselves, and also turn their attention to the situation of girls around the world.

With free admission, no registration and free entry and exit during opening hours, it is easy to stop by while out shopping.

Editor's comment

October 11 is a day to think about the rights and potential of girls around the world. It is wonderful to have a place where we can learn while having fun.

The event runs today and tomorrow. If you are nearby, why not stop by? For details, please see the announcement from Plan International Japan.
