On October 6, 2026, Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an advisory on Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia on its Overseas Safety website (information as of October 5).

According to the notice, the Houthis announced that they attacked energy-related facilities in various locations, including Riyadh, on October 4 and 5. On October 5, Yemen's internationally recognized government also announced the start of a military operation to retake Houthi-held areas.

Attacks and fighting may continue and the outlook is uncertain. If the situation worsens, airspace closures and flight cancellations or delays could occur without notice.

Key points

  • Those in or planning to visit Saudi Arabia should check the hazard information and advisories issued for the country, and gather the latest information, including flights, from multiple sources
  • Follow local authorities' instructions, stay away from oil-related and military facilities, and refrain from photographing military sites or damaged locations
  • All of Yemen is at Level 4 (evacuation advisory) and the Saudi border area with Yemen is at Level 3 (do not travel). Do not travel for any purpose
