Share the Planet is a general incorporated association that promotes international cooperation. In the face of increasingly complex global issues, it aims for speedy solutions by connecting and working together with individuals, private organizations such as NGOs, companies, research institutions, government bodies and international organizations.

It has four main fields of activity: practice in overseas fields (adapting to and mitigating climate change); research and policy proposals (bringing results from the field into policy); realizing a global citizen society (tackling society's issues with the power of citizens); and organizational support (advice and training for organizations that carry out the work). Overseas it works on climate-adaptive agriculture and other activities, and in Japan it dispatches lecturers and carries out intercultural exchange.

Recent efforts introduced on its site include a four-year report on the project on practicing and spreading climate-adaptive agriculture in the Haor region of Bangladesh, and a workshop for a project on rice productivity and resilience under climate risk. It also builds up the people behind international cooperation, for example by holding a practical training course on gathering supporters and fundraising for start-up NGOs.

Key points

  • Practicing and spreading climate-adaptive agriculture in places such as the Haor region of Bangladesh
  • Creating an environment where local people, government, research institutions, companies and other actors can each make full use of their strengths
  • Organizational support through advice and training for start-up NGOs and others

Why this organization deserves attention

Its distinguishing feature is that it values "building sustainable systems," aiming for the systems and relationships created in a project to keep working in the community after the project ends. It describes the idea of creating an environment where each actor can make full use of their strengths, rather than solving problems by itself.

It offers a broad set of efforts that support international cooperation, from agricultural practice in the field to research, education and awareness-raising in Japan, and organizational support for NGOs. Besides donating, there are opportunities to take part from Japan, such as joining seminars and events.

Editor's comment

The idea of creating an environment where local people can make full use of their strengths, rather than having the supporting side take center stage, seems to hold hints for the future of international cooperation.

The official website also introduces the latest information on seminars and events. Why not take a look at an activity that interests you?
